PAPER MACHINES

HEADBOX

The headbox equipment is key in the formation of the final product. Its role is to evenly distribute the fibrous mixture onto the forming wire. Thanks to its experience and developments stemming from its applied research, Allimand proposes three categories of headbox for various applications.

HEADBOX

HYDROFIBER

The Allimand Hydrofiber(TM) allows the formation of material with a very low concentration. This characteristic is obtained thanks to advanced filtration technology.

Single or multi coats, the Hydrofiber is installed on machines with an inclined
wire part and treat long fibres over 25 mm. The final properties of the material<
can be controlled over a high speed range. Allimand has very high speed Hydrofiber references. The Hydrofiber can produce a wide range of nonwoven and composite products. Its flexibility, meticulous mechanical design and its high drainage capacity means it can produce unique fibre mats.

With the Hydrofiber, Allimand is one of the world leaders in nonwoven and composite production equipment. It is also installed on Allimand’s nonwoven and composite pilot machine.

PAPER MACHINES

FORMING SECTION

The sheet formation section is the first section of the paper machine which directly influences the physical characteristics, quality and evenness of the sheet formation.
Allimand carefully determines the configuration and equipment used for the sheet
formation section depending on the types of paper to be produced, the types of fibres and the paper machine production speed. Allimand’s know-how covers a wide range ofpapers (speciality, technical, nonwoven) which allows it to provide innovative and reliable solutions to guarantee optimum sheet formations.

FORMING SECTION

FOURDRINIER

The other determining element of the formation of fibrous materials is the wire part which is where the dewatering process starts.
Allimand designs, manufactures and modifies all types of wire parts, fourdrinier or inclined. The Allimand wire parts incorporate agile cantilever systems to enable quick and safe wire changing and maintenance operations.

FORMING SECTION

ISA SHAKING UNIT

The Allimand inertial shaking unit can be installed on an existing production line or on a new machine.By moving the wire part breast roll at a high frequency, it improves the web formation and its physical characteristics (ratio SM/ST, SCT, RCT).
The Allimand ISA inertial shaking unit has the following characteristics:

  • Large operating range (from 0 to 30 mm stroke, from 150 to 600 strokes/min),
  • No constraints regarding civil engineering and no vibrations in the paper machine building,
  • An all-in-one system design which makes for easy installation with minimum civil engineering,
  • Its intelligent design significantly reduces maintenance costs.

FORMING SECTION

TOP FORMER

Positioned on the wire part, the Top Former is a double wire dewatering unit which mirrors the dewatering process and therefore the formation.
Its main objective is to extract a large quantity of water upwards and therefore limit the length of the wire part.
Operating at high speeds of over 1200 m/min, the Allimand Top Former is a must-have for the production of boards and packaging but also certain graphic papers. Allimand has many references in these sectors.

PAPER MACHINES

PRESS SECTION

The press section follows the formation section on the paper machine. Its objective is to remove as much water as possible from the mat before it is transferred to the dryer part.
This is not only a fundamental stage for the sheet characteristics (porosity and surface appearance) but also economically, reducing steam consumption in the following machine process.
Whether a complete new production line or a rebuild, Allimand’s know-how enables high dryness levels to be reached while keeping the machine efficiency.

PRESS SECTION

CONVENTIONAL PRESS

Allimand designs and manufactures different types of conventional presses.
Single nip, binip, trinip and tandem, each configuration is adapted to the characteristics of the final fibre product taking into account ergonomics, safety and felt changing times.
Each press section is completely pre erected in our workshops to save time during the machine stop and ensure optimum project efficiency, especially for machine reconstruction projects.

PRESS SECTION

SHOE PRESS

The shoe press creates a pressure area across the sheet before drying.
Allimand has developed a portfolio of shoe presses:

  • NANO shoe press: this mini shoe press is particularly adapted to machine reconstructions and medium width machines. Among the advantages of this configuration, its compactness, the reuse of existing machine equipment, reduced investment costs.
  • NAOS shoe press: intermediate shoe press with a 250 mm shoe. Used on wide and fast machines, and particularly new machines. The working pressure is higher than that of the NANO shoe press.
  • FAROS shoe press: The latest result of Allimand’s research, this shoe press has a particularly large contact zone (350 mm). It is especially adapted for a single nip configuration. The precise and robust design of the Allimand shoe presses greatly increases the service life of machine clothing (sleeves and felts).

Allimand has many shoe press references for various paper types from liner and fluting, white kraft liner and decorative paper to printing and writing paper. Allimand has a NAOS shoe press pilot which is used not only by Allimand for research and development purposes but also by its customers.

PAPER MACHINES

DRYER PART

The dryer part follows the press section and dries the fibre mat by evaporation. The main objective is to reach a dryness level of around 92 to 95% at the dryer part outlet while keeping energy consumption to a minimum.
The mechanical conception and process of Allimand dryer parts favours the equipment runnability and efficiency.

DRYER PART

PRE AND POST DRYER PARTS

Allimand has the design and manufacturing of dryer part configurations down to a fine art, even the most specific and challenging.
The choice of design depends on several characteristics:

  • Type of stock
  • Type of paper or fibre mat
  • Basis weight
  • Speed
  • Runnability at shrinkage

Each dryer is bored, turned, tested, ground and dynamically balanced in Allimand’s workshops. It is then covered with copper, Teflon, chrome or chrome Teflon for specific applications. Depending on the speed of the machine and the customer’s expectations, Allimand offers three types of drive: direct drive of the dryers by felt rolls, by enclosed gears and by large gears.

DRYER PART

STEAM AND CONDENSATES

Allimand defines the specific steam and condensates circuit according to several factors: the dryness level at the press section outlet, the type of paper or fibre mat and the required dimensional stability.

DRYER PART

PNEUMATIC THREADING

Paper threading is a key function on the production line and directly affects the production efficiency. Automated threading procedures guarantees the operators safety. Allimand threading equipment ensures optimum threading efficacy for the lightest sheets to the heaviest.

PAPER MACHINES

COATING AND SIZING

Coating and saturation give the paper and fibre mats their specific properties such as improved physical resistance, dimensional stability, durability, chemical resistance, gloss and printability.
The production line energy consumption can also be optimized by using these processes.
Discover Allimand’s portfolio of coating and saturation equipment.

COATING AND SIZING

SIZE PRESS

The size press saturates the sheet which passes through a coating bath containing starch, latex or pigmented coatings. This is the key process for saturation for production speeds of up to 800-900m/min.
The adjustable separation of the Allimand size press cylinders allows fibre mats to be saturated without affecting the product bulk, particularly for filtration applications. The size press is especially adapted for slight pigmentations or pre coating up to 3g/m².

COATING AND SIZING

SC SIZER

The SC Sizer is a coating colour application unit by the transfer of a calibrated filmA. It operates up to very fast production speeds (1500m/min) and with high sauce concentrations. In comparison to the size press, the SC Sizer can apply more mineral fillers to fibre mats, increase energy saving (up to +40% energy saved in the case of starch) and have different sauce applications on the paper side and the wire side.
The SC Sizer is the latest of the Allimand sizers. It has been sold for many applications (nonwoven, speciality papers, packaging, printing and writing) and to numerous customers.
Its compact design corresponds perfectly to machine rebuilds, it requires easy maintenance and allows a good view of the sheet during the transition phases. Its designed protections ensure safety and add visual appeal.

COATING AND SIZING

COATING HEAD

The coating station, installed at the end of the machine, improves the surface characteristics of the final product by applying a pigmented latex coat.

In comparison to the sizer, it can apply more sauce, up to 20g/m² for increased printability and gloss.

COATING AND SIZING

COAT DRYING

Coat drying is an important stage for the final quality of the applied coat. There are three main processes: drying by electric infra-red, gas infra-red and by air tunnel.
Allimand offers several solutions for drying equipment adapted to the final product.

PAPER MACHINES

CALENDER

The calender is the last part of the machine that affects the quality of the paper or fibre mat.
The mat is fed through one or several nips and at ambient temperature or heated; the configuration is defined depending on the humidity level, the final bulk required and desired paper surface qualities. The Allimand calenders control the smoothness, porosity, gloss and softness of the paper or fibre mat. In order to do this, Allimand engineers define, design and manufacture the best configurations among the hard, soft, double and super calenders.

PAPER MACHINES

REEL

The reel is the last section of the paper or fibre mat machine. It winds the final product into reels. The Allimand reels can wind reels of up to 4.5m in diameter, 8m wide and at speeds of over 1500m/min.

REEL

D REEL

The Allimand D reel is a hydraulic or pneumatic reel able to wind reels with a diameter of 3.5m. The reel drum can have double grooving for certain productions such as coated paper or fibre mats with low porosity. Allimand can complete this equipment with an automatic reel changing system or a lengthways slitting system to slit the parent reel into shipping rolls.

REEL

AXIAL G REEL

The axial G reel is an essential part of paper machine equipment for winding productions such as high printability papers, very humid papers (up to 20%) or papers with elastic properties.
For highly technical papers, Allimand offers the possibility to apply torque control for the first and second winding phases. Numerous customers have already opted for this solution.
